Aiming High and Caring for Everyone.

Enabling children to flourish and succeed

EYFS - Robins and Wrens

Welcome back! We hope you had a lovely Easter!

We are looking forward to our next topic of ‘How things grow!’

Over the next half term, we will learn about farms and farm animals, the conditions plants need to grow, identifying parts of a plant, understanding the life cycle of a bean, identifying minibeasts and their habitats, and understanding why bees are important.

We will look forward to growing a variety of our own plants in school.

We will be going on our Farm Trip where we will learn lots about animals and their young. We will also look at the life cycle of a butterfly and watch our very own caterpillars grow, become a chrysalis and turn into a butterfly!

In our Literacy sessions, we will read 'What the Ladybird Heard', ‘Jasper’s beanstalk’ and ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’. We will be continuing to write sentences using capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. These will be in different contexts using sounds heard but also learning to spell tricky words. We will continue to retell stories using new vocabulary, answering retrieval questions and making predictions during the stories.

In our maths sessions, we will be consolidating counting skills, verbally counting to larger numbers and developing a range of counting strategies. We will also be recognising and learning the names of 3D shapes, explore patterns and start to look at maps and position.

In our PSHCE sessions we are learning about where babies come from and me and my body. We will also have discussions about changes that are coming up ready for Year 1.

In R.E., we will be learning about which stories are special and why.

Our school day is 8.40-3.15. Our classroom doors open at 8.40 and close at 8.45.

Remember to name anything and everything that comes into school!! This is very important!

Please don’t allow children to bring toys in from home as they cause a lot of upset for others and can get lost.

Tapestry – We will aim to use Tapestry more to keep you up-to-date with your child’s learning!

Reading - We will send home a phonics book or activity and a sharing book each week for you to share with your children. We will collect these in on a Thursday and send out new ones on a Friday.

Communication on the door – We’re always happy to chat but morning messages must be kept short as we begin teaching at 8:45. Longer conversations can happen after school. We ask you to kindly wait until all of the children have been safely dismissed at the end of the day if you need us.

Thank you for all of your support.

Many thanks,

The EYFS Team
